THE HILLS DISTRICT CALISTHENICS CLUB
PARENT INVOLVEMENT
Our club is run by a group of dedicated and hard working volunteers. We are always looking for parents to offer their services to assist with the smooth running of the club
At the Annual General Meeting of the club, held end November, we elect a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. There are also other necessary positions which are appointed by executive. All are vital in helping our club to remain as successful as it is. Hills Districts is a great club to be involved with.
CLASS MANAGEMENT
Each class has Team Managers who have kindly volunteered to ensure the smooth running of the class. If you have any questions or concerns throughout the year please speak to your Team Manager. These ladies are very approachable and only too happy to help where they can. In particular, those parents who have children in our youngest sections, we are very fortunate to have experienced volunteers available and have split the duties to ensure parents and children are given the best possible guidance throughout the year.
PARENT/PRESENTATION CONCERT
Just before competitions in September, the club holds it’s annual concert. It is also used as a full dress rehearsal for competitions. This is a chance for the children to perform in front of an audience and to show family and friends the work that they have been learning all year. It is also a great opportunity for the younger members of our club to watch the older girls perform and to see what they can achieve as they develop and improve. Class awards are also presented at the concert.
Our concert is a very special day in the club’s calendar so it is very important that families support their daughters and make it as successful as possible. It is always a very enjoyable day.
PURCHASE OF PARENT/PRESENTATION CONCERT TICKETS
The cost of two non-refundable adult tickets per family to the Hills Presentation Concert will be incorporated into the annual fundraising levy. This initiative was commenced in 2003 in an endeavour to stop the number of ‘free’ entries to the auditorium and therefore assist with covering costs for the evening. This way every member of the club, regardless of their position, contributes. Further tickets will be available through your team manager or can be purchased at the Box Office on the day of the concert should families wish to purchase extra seating.
For the club to continue producing a concert of such a high standard we need to be able to avail ourselves of the purpose built facilities at the Swan Park Theatre and although these facilities are excellent they do come at a cost. This is another very important date for our club so please keep it free. This is another very important date for our club so please keep it free.
DISPLAYS
From time to time the club is asked to perform at local shopping centres and school fetes. We make every endeavor to oblige as it helps to promote our sport and attract new members to our club.
FIVE, TEN, FIFTEEN YEAR, TWENTY, THIRTY, FORTY AND FORTY FIVE YEAR BADGES
In 1994 the committee of the Hills District Club decided that it would be appropriate to recognise those girls and coaches who had shown loyalty and dedication to our club. We introduced a five year badge which was presented at our Presentation Concert and proudly received by quite a large number of our girls.
In 1995 we presented ten year badges to our longer standing members as well as five year badges to those members who completed five years with “Hills” in 1995. In 1996 the club followed on with 15 year badges. In 1997 the first twenty year badges were presented and our first 30 year badge was also presented. In 2017 we presented our first 40 year badge and in 2022 another presentation – 45 years – to Karen Quinn who has been coaching coordinator of the club since its inception!
IN CONCLUSION
We have tried to give you a good overall idea of calisthenics and how the Hills District Club operates. At first it may seem a little daunting but as the year progresses everything will fall into place and all will appear clearer. Should any changes occur through out the year you will be informed in a newsletter.
We hope you and your children enjoy being a part of our club, that you have a long and happy association with us and that you gain as much from Calisthenics as many other thousands of people across Australia do.
